Its name comes from the patron saint of sailors, San Cristobal. It has an area of 558 km² and its highest point rises to 730 meters above sea level. This island is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Puerto Baquerizo village is the capital of Galapagos province. Among the tourist attractions are: El Junco a freshwater lagoon located in a crater, La Galapaguera, a breeding station and refuge for giant turtles, Cerro Tijeretas (a nesting colony for frigates), La Lobería and San Cristobal Biological Station.
